Multi-Media Journalist
Jasmine Sellars is a dedicated student multimedia journalist with a passion for storytelling through print and broadcast.
As an intern reporter at Newsday, Jasmine has worked in print, TV and social media, covering various local stories across Long Island and NYC.
She was also an intern reporter at The Oceanside/ Island Park Herald Community Newspapers, where she earned five front page stories, including a noteworthy interview with Congressman Anthony D'Esposito. Jasmine also interned at Blank Slate Media's Island 360 and covered a range of local events and human interest stories.
As a staff writer for The Hofstra Chronicle, Jasmine has interviewed award-winning rap duo Rae Scremmurd and popular musical artists Ski Mask the Slump God and CupcaKke.
As a broadcast journalist, Jasmine is a field reporter for the Long Island Advocate and a member of WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University.
Jasmine is currently a graduate student at Hofstra University, pursing a major in journalism. As an undergrad student, Jasmine served as PR Chair and Treasurer of Hofstra's student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists and PR Chair of Hofstra Black Student Union.
Jasmine was also an esteemed keynote speaker at Hofstra's 2024 'Graduates of Color' Ceremony.
Her other leadership roles include the Regional Head of Decision Desk for the Hofstra Votes Live Simulcast of the 2022 Midterm Elections on The Heat Network. Her work in election coverage included leading a team of researchers to update spreadsheet and call live races on the air.
Jasmine has also worked as the Social Media Takeover Manager for the Hofstra's Marketing and Communications Office, where she created social media content on the @HofstraU Instagram page to promote the “Smart, Black & Funny” game show with Amanda Seales.
On campus, Jasmine worked as a tutor at Hofstra's Writing Center and is a member of Hofstra's Blue Leadership and Gold Leadership Programs.
Off campus, Jasmine is recognized as a Girl Scout of Greater New York and is a 2021 Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient. She earned 168 hours towards her STEM program "Fun Up STEM". She actively serves as a tutor and counselor at Sunnyside Woodside Community Center in Queens, NY.
Jasmine is also a council member for the Seeds of Fortune Scholars Program and is a member and published author within the Girls Write Now Circle.
